Halloween is a very old festival celebrated on October 31. The name of the holiday means "hallowed" or "holy evening" because it happens the day before All Saints Day. It is more than two thousand years old. Halloween originated as a celebration connected with evil spirits and the end of the year. It was a special night for witches. It was the night for looking into the future.
Today we know this holiday as Halloween when many people have parties and play Halloween games. Children dress up as witches and ghosts and go "trick or treating".
Houses, stores and classrooms are decorated in the traditional Halloween colours, orange and black. Witches, black cats, ghosts, skeletons and jack-o-lanterns are usual decorations.
